Buonasera a tutti,

I'm sorry to write this message in English but I don't speak Italian. My name is Maxime, I'm French and I live in Nizza, a city located at only 25 km of the Italian border (Ventimiglia, IM) where I have sometimes the pleasure to see old cars registered in Italy.

I'm used to take pictures of old cars that I see in the streets, everywhere I go. I try firstly to "save" the most as possible of old French plates, especially the black ones (issued from 1950 to 1992). Unfortunately, all these plates are replaced by new ones (since 2009, we are copying the 1994 Italian national system...) and all will be diseppear in 2020.

This is to explain why I really like the Italian legislation, who permit to keep the old plate even if the owner move to another province or sell his car. My favorite are definitely the "orange letters" plates, typically Italian and who often belongs to rare and interesting cars.

I went to Sicily last week and I took a lot of pictures, that I look forward to show here.

As you can guess, I do not have any cars with "targhe nere", but however I drive a "youngtimer" car. It's a 1982 Renault 9 TSE, the top-of-the range of the model. Unfortunately it is registered with the very ugly national French plates.

Don't hesitate to answer me in Italian to simplify the discussion. I will use an online translator. Wink

Wink

Wow, an Escort MKI with targhe nere ? I must find it when you'll go back here ! Cycling is also my favorite way to explore my region. I'm still finding some very interesting cars between the cites of the coast and the small villages of the Alps. I climbed the Turini from Sospel (Sospello) and then the Braus from l'Escarène (Scarena) last September. This day, I've found a 1975 Peugeot 404 pick-up, a 1980 Citroën C35, a 1982 Audi 80, a Peugeot 403 or a 1974 Renault 6, for example. But old cars are unfortunately more and more rare in Nizza, if you compare with the situation only 5 years ago. It's probably the same in Italy ?

Wink

Be sure that there a lot of enthusiasts about old registrations plates in France. I'm a member of a French forum dedicated to plates around the world and I also contribute to a topic dedicated to old cars spotted in the streets, where old plates are very appreciated. About the foreign plates, our favourites are very often the Italian ones from 1976 to 1985 (the famous "orange letters" ) !

So, here are the pics. I'm the owner since February 2017. The car is far from perfection : There is a big scratch on the right side, I need a lock for the driver's door, the ceiling is peeling off, the rear bumper loses its color and I lost recently and inexplicably a hubcap. All will be perfect in a few years !

This pictures were taken last Friday in Villefranche-sur-Mer near Nice. I stopped at this place to take a picture of a beautiful Fiat Croma from Imperia...and I considered it was also the good moment to do the same with my own car. Smile

To be honest, I had never seen a green R9 before mine ! I spotted this summer another green TSE in the Loire valley, but it's a very rare color ("vert Épicea" in Renault's language).

About Italy, i was very happy to see two R9 in Sicily last week. It would be impossible to see two...Fiat Regata in France in the same time (and even in one year !).
